- The Tiger and Lion Safari-cum-Zoo in Tyavarekoppa, near Shivamogga, Karnataka, is set to receive two lion cubs from Kamala Nehru Prani Sangrahalay (Indore Zoo), Madhya Pradesh.

Discovery of Veeragallu (Hero Stones) in Nagamangala
Context
● Several hero stones (Veeragallu) have been discovered in Nagamangala taluk, Mandya district, Karnataka.
● These were found as part of an initiative to document ancient temple sites and inscriptions.
Key Findings
● Total Sites Surveyed: 306 villages and hamlets in the taluk.
● Total Hero Stones Found: 1,123 identified and recorded.
● Stone Inscriptions: Many of the hero stones carry inscriptions and carvings depicting war scenes, sacrifices, and mythological tales.
● Some stones date back to pre-10th century CE, confirming the area’s rich medieval history.
Historical Significance
● The Veeragallu stones commemorate warriors who died in battle or while defending their community.
● Found in temple precincts, village outskirts, and forest areas.
