- Location: Apsarakonda-Mugali region, Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka.
Authority Involved:
- Cleared by: Standing Committee of the State Board for Wildlife (SBWL).
- Chaired by: Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre.
Purpose of Sanctuary:
- Conservation focus:
- Whales,Dolphins,Several species of fish,Marine biodiversity
Impact Assessment:
- Livelihood:
- Committee stated it won’t impact the livelihood of local communities, especially fishermen.
- The sanctuary doesn’t involve private lands.
Greater Bangalore Administration Act
Implementation Timeline:
- Act comes into effect: May 15, 2025
- Greater Bangalore Authority (GBA) to be formed within 120 days
Governance Structure:
- Chairperson: Chief Minister of Karnataka
- Vice-Chairman: Minister for Bangalore Development
- Member Secretary: Chief Commissioner of GBA
Functions and Rules:
- Rules of existing city corporations will be reframed under the new Act
- Administrator to work under guidance of the State Government
- As per Article 131, Government’s decision on policy matters is final
