- Police Visits to Homes:
- Beat officers at every police station will visit homes in their jurisdiction.
- Interact with residents and listen to their problems.
- Gather details about neighborhoods.
- Note down any law and order concerns.
- Data Collection:
- Officers will record data during visits.
- Helps police gain a real-time understanding of their jurisdiction.
- Positive Engagement:
- Aim is to create a positive opinion of the police.
Solve people’s issues directly at their doorsteps.
Kere Mitra Programme – Survey Findings
Survey by: Bengaluru chapter of ActionAid Association
Coverage: 52 Kere Mitras across 35 lakes (South & East zones of Bengaluru)
Purpose: Assess effectiveness of the programme and understand challenges faced by Kere Mitras.
Key Issues Highlighted:
- Ineffective Implementation:
- 57% respondents felt the programme was not effectively implemented.
- Lack of support and coordination from authorities.
- Delayed/No Response from BBMP:
- 44% said they received no response to alerts.
- 28% reported delayed responses (around 7 days).
- 29% stated none of their flagged issues were addressed.
- Another 29% said only 25% of issues were taken care of.
- Minimal Lake Improvement:
- Since programme launch in October 2023, little improvement seen.
- No clear updates, timelines, or budget transparency.
- Authorities expect passive agreement instead of active citizen participation.
- Training & Engagement Gaps:
- Lack of proper training and clarity on roles/responsibilities.
- No escalation mechanism or active decision-making involvement for volunteers.
What is the Kere Mitra Programme ? It is a Part of BBMP’s initiative to bring transparency in lake management. Along with Kere Mitra, BBMP launched an online lake monitoring system to track total lakes and collect zonal-wise data on inspections by BBMP, maintenance agencies, and Kere Mitras. |
