Context:
- 14,000 government schools in Karnataka lack land records (like khata extracts).
- This creates administrative, legal, and developmental issues.
Initiative Launched:
- Name: Government School and Educational Institutions Property Protection Campaign
- Duration: July to September
- Launched by: Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL)
Objectives:
- Obtain land records of schools (property, land, site, buildings).
- Register lands in the name of respective schools.
- Prevent encroachment and ensure permanent legal status.
- Resolve disputes and enable infrastructure development.
Current Status:
- Total govt. schools: ~48,182
- Primary: 21,045
- Upper Primary: 22,086
- High Schools: 5,051
- About 14,000 schools lack land registration.
Administrative Measures:

- Commissioner of Public Instruction
- Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of all districts
Legal Protection Goals:
- Prevent future litigation or disputes.
- Ensure that schools retain ownership.
Develop compound walls via MGNREGA for schools lacking them.
