Context:
- As of the end of June this year, India has seen significant growth in its startup ecosystem, with a total of 40 lakh (140,000)
- Startups officially recognized by the Department of Industry and Internal Trade Promotion (DPIIT).
- Maharashtra has emerged as the leading state in terms of the number of recognized startups and innovators.
- Karnataka, however, is not far behind. The state has achieved a commendable second position in the national innovation rankings.

3.Revenue increase in Karnataka after covid
Context:
- In the fiscal year 2022-23, following the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Karnataka experienced notable economic recovery.
- The state’s internal product rate (Gross State Domestic Product, or GSDP) and revenue receipts both increased by 11.13% compared to the previous year
Economic Growth:
- Gross Domestic Product (GDP): Increased from ₹14.79 lakh crore in 2018-19 to ₹21.81 lakh crore in 2022-23.
- Growth Rate:52% over 5 years and 11.13% for the year 2021-22.
Revenue Receipts:
- Amount in 2022-23: ₹2.29 lakh crore
- Increase:19% over the previous year
- Revenue Receipts Growth Rate:50% improvement in 2022-23 over 2021-22.
Expenditure:
- Total State Expenditure: Increased from ₹2.61 lakh crore in 2021-22 to ₹2.76 lakh crore in 2022-23, marking a 5.61% increase.
- Capital Expenditure: Increased by 5.61% in 2022-23.
Fiscal Deficit:
- Reduction: Fiscal deficit decreased from ₹66,036 crore to ₹46,623 crore.
Tax Revenue:
- Amount in 2022-23: ₹1.78 lakh crore
- Increase:76% from the previous year
- Annual Growth: Expected increase of 10% in tax revenue over the previous year.

- The office of Chief Secretary has been excluded from the operation of the tenure system.

5.Karnataka benefits from Budget 2024
Context:
- Karnataka has been allocated Rs 45,485.80 crore as tax devolution and Rs 15,299.7 crore as grant-in- aid in the 2024-25 budget.
- From 2014, when Modi came to power for the first time, and 2024, Rs 2,95,818 was budgeted as tax devolution and Rs 2,36,955 as grant-in-aid for the state, Nirmala sitsraman said.
- In comparison, it was Rs 81,791 crore and Rs 60,779 crore, respectively under the UPA rule, she said.
Karnataka benefits from Budget scheme:
- Under the scheme, Rs 305 core was allocated in 2020-21, Rs 452 crore in 2021-22, Rs 3,399 crore in 2022-23, Rs 3,879 crore in 2023-24 and Rs 2,006 crore in 2024-25.
- By the end of this financial year, the state would have received Rs 10,041 crore in total,
- Under the Railways, Rs 7,559 crore was allocated in this budget, while it was a mere Rs 835 crore annually between 2009 and 2014.
- The announcements in the budget, including schemes for the youth, MSMEs, agriculture R&D and Rs 1,000 crore venture capital for space vertical, will also benefit Bengaluru and Karnataka,
